History
In the early 1970s, the landscape of Jurong began to change, with the construction of factories and industries in the area. The Chinese Garden, located in Jurong was built in 1975 as part of JTC's efforts to introduce greenery to complement the industrial landscape of Jurong.

A well-known Taiwanese architect, Prof Yuen-Chen Yu was placed in charge of designing the Chinese Garden. The 13.5-ha Garden was designed and built based on classical northern Chinese imperial architectural style, specifically reminiscent of the Sung dynasty period (AD 960-1279).

Key features of the Garden include selected architectural reproductions based on Beijing's Summer Palace. Over the years, the Garden has undergone some changes and new features were added to revitalise the area. They include attractions such as the Suzhou-style Bonsai Garden and the Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum. In 2001, JTC also removed entrance fees into the Gardens and extended its opening hours to 10:00 pm.

Till today, the Garden continues to provide a peaceful refuge to Singaporeans who go there for walks amidst the landscaped grounds. Couples also enjoy taking wedding photographs by the bridges and pagodas and enjoy the festivities at the Gardens during Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations
